Forgiveness: The Key to the Kingdom
Published in Paperback by Mandeville Press (October, 2000)
Authors: John Roger, John Morton, and John-Roger
Average review score:

Excellent, soothing and healing book
Forgiveness - something we all have had to do sometime in our life. John Roger really helps facilitates the healing we all need to do on this issue. Forgiveness of self is really expounded upon and had a profound effect on me. This book is full of compassion, wit and wisdom. It is one of those books that you will want to refer to again and again. Just open to any page and let the love and wisdom pour over you and heal you. This book is indeed a healing book. There is a "gem" contained on each and every page. God's eternal message of love and forgiveness is lovingly portrayed and no where is blame or guilt to be found.

Teaching one with love and compassion, we are guided to walk a path of love and not a path of revenge and hate. I just finished Joel Rothschild's book, Signals, where he, too talks about forgiveness and how if one does not forgive, the anger and hate can fester inside us and cause disease. As John Roger states, "Don't judge, forgive and then forget it."

"As you change behavior, you change the emotion. As you change the emotion, you change the thinking. As you change the thinking, you're getting wisdom. As you gain wisdom, you go into forgiveness."

This is an EXCELLENT book to bring you back into forgiveness with gentleness. Often, we are the roughest with ourselves. Do something good for yourself - go out and get this book and be prepared to have your heart opened. Let the tears fall and open the way for cleansing to begin. You will NOT be disappointed. One of the best books I have read in a long time on forgiveness. I highly recommend this book!

excellent guide for letting go of the past
J-R has done it again!!! In easy to understand and practical words, he shares with us ways of releasing our limitations and getting on with our lives. Not only is forgiveness of others covered, but forgiveness of self. This is a wonderful book for anyone making a fresh start in their lives!! Highly reccomended!

The Gerson Therapy: The Amazing Nutritional Program for Cancer and Other Illnesses
Published in Paperback by Kensington Pub Corp (October, 2001)
Authors: Charlotte Gerson and Morton, D.P.M. Walker
Average review score:

Outstanding Resource !
Much like the previous poster, I also suffered a degenerative disease. I did the research for a cure while healing from some conventional radiation therapy. I began the Gerson Therapy (GT)as indicated in this book in part, started feeling stronger and got into it full tilt. I must admit, Dr. Max Gerson MD, the author's father, hit the nail on the head in terms of a curative therapy. His is some heirloom information and techniques that have survived because they work.

If you need to buy a book on how to get well from degenerative disease, this is the first choice. Get started now. Begin now. Disease as simple as arthritis, and as tough as cancer respond to this therapy. I know from personal experience also. The program is nutritional and detoxification with minimum supplements. The book informs as to what and why and when to use what. They do not sell vitamins, or expensive publications, just straight forward truth.

I also, particularily for Multiple Myeloma or Plasmacytoma patients, but cancer patients generally, highly recommend the book, 'Living Proof', by Michael Gearin-Tosh, published 2002. It is a wonderful narrative of how to approach cancer treatment written by a man diagnosed MM but who did Gerson Therapy and lives.

Do it, get well, and write your own review ! I'll be checking back from time to time. God Bless.

Read this book on Chronic Disease first
A Highly Recommended First Book On The Use And Application Of Alternative Medicine/Natural Healing for Chronic Conditions.

This is the book that I would first recommend for anyone wanting to understand the use of alternative medicine for the healing of any chronic condition including cancer I would also highly recommend this book to anyone contemplating the use of conventional medicine as well because of the excellent material on the disease process and the potential for using this or some other alternative therapy in a complimentary or combination process of natural and conventional healing. The issue in addressing healing of chronic diseases is for the person with the disease and their family to be sufficiently unformed of the causes and all possible treatment possibilities so that they can make informed and responsible decisions about their total treatment. Other therapies and approaches could be evaluated as to how well they addressed all of the healing concepts detailed in this book.

"The Gerson Therapy" is a welcome and highly recommended addition to the multitude of books that address healing of chronic conditions including cancer by using natural or alternative means. The specific approach is healing by a combination of high quality nutrition and total body detoxification. The Therapy is a total program and does require significant life style changes at least for the detailed therapy. Actually, lifetime lifestyle changes will be required to remain healthy, but these are easily done once one has gone through the detailed therapy.

This book accomplishes several needed functions. The Gerson Therapy is brought up to date, (the therapy is over 60 years old), with the latest information including program modifications for people who have had chemotherapy, for people who are in an extremely weakened state, and a modified program for non cancer chronic conditions. The information is provided in a highly readable and understandable format. The book details the background, theory, and enough specific cases to establish credibility without being overbearing. In fact most of the case studies are used to detail understanding of the therapy. The book does not sugar coat the difficulty of healing using natural therapy and states that the Gerson Therapy may be the most difficult to follow of the many that are available. All of the information required to do the therapy either on one's own or in conjunction with a qualified clinic or practitioner is provided in easily accessible section. (There is some redundancy in some of the specific sections but this redundancy eliminates the need to search for needed information for people who are following the therapy). The number of recipes is expanded from previous books, and this is a welcome addition for anyone who has followed the therapy. The mental aspects of natural healing are now addressed and are given a separate section in the book. Finally, many tricks and techniques needed to make the therapy more workable are included. The bottom line is that the book is both informative and is useable as a day to day guide for anyone deciding to do the therapy.

I feel qualified to make these statements about this book because three years ago I was diagnosed with cancer and after much research and discussions with conventional and alternative practitioners, I chose to first start with the Gerson Therapy. The results have been wonderful with the cancer having gone in remission after about 18 months and numerous other problems have responded to the therapy as well. I have not had to revert to my back up plan of conventional medicine. Yes the therapy can be difficult to follow particularly because it is highly restrictive on food, requires time to make fresh vegetable juices several times every day, and requires time to do the detoxification procedures. And yes, the diet has different taste due to the salt and fat restrictions, but one quickly get use to the different tasee However, to be healed without permanent side effects is well worth the effort and the required life style changes. While I had excellent support materials available, this book is still a significant improvement to the available literature. I found nothing in this book that I had a problem with and with the improvements that have been made, the book deserves the five star rating

The process of natural healing is not easy, requires attention to detail, and continued study to avoid setbacks through the process. This new book on the Gerson Therapy will provide information that can assist the decision process and will provide up to date information on the therapy's application.

Glass: An Inspirational Portfolio (Artisans)
Published in Spiral-bound by Watson-Guptill Pubns (April, 1999)
Author: Jera May Morton
Average review score:

Delightful and elegant coffee table book
This is a delightful and elegant coffee table book for glass artists and enthusiasts. Its small size makes it a versatile accent piece that can be used almost anywhere and the spiral binding makes in easy to leaf through.

The book starts out with an overview of glass including history and a summary of how various types of glass are made. A variety of glass decoration techniques are then explained including glazing, painting, staining, sandblasting, acid etching, fusing, slumping, casting and bonding. These are not intended as instruction, rather as a general guide to glassmaking methodology.

A beautiful and varied showcase of over 30 pieces of glass artwork follows. Each piece is displayed by itself on a single page. On the opposite page, along with the artwork title, size and date completed, there is background information on and a quote from the artist.

There is a great glossary, index and list of artists with contact information. This book is fascinating for casual browsing and will inspire any glassmaker for years to come.

beautiful photography
this book is beautifully bound. contains bright colorful photography and a quick narrative on different techniques of art glass. it doesn't go into blowing very much, but it does provide some examples on techniques that may not be know as widely to the layman. it's not a how-to on the techniques, but more of a catalog on them. i got it as a gift and i really love it.

Gossamer Odyssey: The Triumph of Human-Powered Flight
Published in Hardcover by Houghton Mifflin Co (March, 1981)
Author: Morton Grosser
Average review score:

A must for any aviation buff.
This was a very informative book and gave lots of insight into the hugh effort that must have gone into this age-old quest. The focus at the personal level gives a nice picture of what the individuals must have gone through. Makes you think "Hey, I could have been there..." Very enjoyable.

As one of the Condor crew, I think this book was the best.
Morton Grosser came to Shafter and to our homes while we were trying to build the first man-powered plane. He wrote a book that centered on the people that were working, thinking and arguing towards the goal. If you want a feel of what it was like to do something for the first time ever, read this book.

Far Beyond the Traditional
"Abandoned Autos" examines some of the subtleties of American automobile culture. The photos contained in this work range from vehicles rediscovered in farmers' fields, to several with trees growing through the engine compartment. Such photos are then contrasted wth corporate promotional literature from when the vehicles were new. Excellent stuff for readers who are lured by the path less travelled and can appreciate the beauty and even sadness embodied in these cultural icons depicted well past their prime.

ABANDONED AUTOS
AN EXCELLENT GIFT FOR LOVERS OF (UNRESTORED) OLD CARS.I GAVE ONE AS A BIRTHDAY GIFT AND THE FEMALE RECIPIENT WAS DELIGHTED. INTERESTING TEXT AND LOVELY PHOTOS MAKE THIS A LIGHT-HEARTED ADDITION FOR THE COFFEE TABLE

The Human Use of Animals: Case Studies in Ethical Choice
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (January, 1998)
Authors: F. Barbara, Ph.D. Orlans, Tom L. Beauchamp, Rebecca Dresser, David B. Morton, and John P., Ph.D. Gluck
Average review score:

RIGHT ON!!!There's NO excuse for animal abuse!!!
This book was Great! everyone should read it

A SOUND ETHICAL TREATMENT OF THE ANIMAL DEBATE
Orlans et al have made a novel and invaluable contribution to the ethical debate concerning "The Human Use of Animals". As a biomedical researcher of fifteen years , I appreciated the frank objectivity that the authors brought to such morally complicated issues as animal experimentation, modern animal farming practices, and religious sacrifice. Each of the case studies presented invokes considerable soul searching and further challenges the reader to question whether we as humans are doing enough to meet our moral obligations to nonhuman animals. These moral obligations, highlighted in the various case studies, are not derived from any legalistic or heady philosophical meanderings but rather stem from an intrinsic sense of right and wrong. The case studies presented in this and hopefully future volumes of "The Human Use of Animals" should become required reading in biomedical ethics curricula.

Investing With Young Guns: The Next Generation of Investment Superstars
Published in Paperback by Financal Times Management (26 June, 2001)
Author: James Morton
Average review score:

Worthwhile reading - from the subject of the book...
How does one write a review of a review? In essence, that's what this is. The book is a survey of sorts - the result of interviews with a dozen fund managers under the age of 34. To make the task interesting, the research for the book was conducted at the very top of the market - the spring of 2000.

To make the task nearly impossible, the author, James Morton, included me in the list of young portfolio managers he wanted to interview.

The process was remarkably straightforward. He did a pile of reading - I write a fair amount, got up to speed on what we we're trying to do at MetaMarkets.com, and then hopped on a plane from London to Boston. We spoke for a few hours in the lobby of the Boston Marriot, and I never really thought about it again.

What James captured is a portrait of youth in a bull market. The bear market had yet to enter the picture and start grinding us all down, inch by inch. The dreams we dreamt were grand. The air was intoxicating. Nothing seemed impossible.

At times I find the chapter about MetaMarkets.com and my role here hard to read. I wax poetic for half a page about the fabulous innovation engine known as Lucent. Lucent! For Pete's sake! To be fair, I also opine on the virtues of Qualcomm and Home Depot, two companies I continue to believe are long term winners. It's the tone that's striking - the arrogance. Investing is an inherently hubristic endeavour. Whether you are in a bull market or a bear market, active investing is standing on a constant promontory in the middle of a raging sea, screaming at the top of your lungs that you know better than the market. During bear markets, this shouting can take the tone of a plea. In bull markets, it comes across as arrogance. But ultimately, it's the standing out their on the promontory at all that counts.

In the end, I think it's a book worth reading. It's worth reading to recognize those parts of the New Economy paradigm that are in fact still intact, albeit tested and bruised. We are indeed still citizens of a day trader nation - one that changes tick by tick whether we personally choose to react or not. We are still all venture capitalists to a degree never before experienced in the history of commerce. Companies at the forefront of information technology, pure innovation, and corporate tribalism still drive us forward, even in these hard times.

Perhaps the lesson is that yes, Virgnia, it is a New Economy. But "New" does not mean "Perfect".

Young Guns Comes Out Firing
An interesting look at the investment strategies of the new breed of investors operating in the new global economy. Indeed, one of the most valuable assets of this book is that it profiles investors in different parts of the world. Also, it is nice to see a book on finance that recognizes the contributions that women have made in the world of investing.

Italian Fun
Published in Paperback by b small publishing (01 February, 1997)
Authors: Lone Morton, Catherine Bruzzone, and Louise Comfort
Average review score:

Great for the young learner.
This book is easy for your youngster - ages 4 - 9 - to learn Italian. Good Instruction Book.

E molto divertente!
We had an informal Italian class for a small group of children in my home this past summer. This book provided hours of fun and games for the kids. It had great ideas to keep the children interested as they traded an afternoon at the local pool for an afternoon learning a foreign language. The price is a bargain and it gave me lots of great ideas. The games reinforce the basics and we'll be using them again and again throughout future classes. For this price, I'd buy two!! Ciao tutti!!!

Joan Lunden's Healthy Cooking
Published in Paperback by Little Brown & Co (Pap) (April, 1997)
Authors: Joan Lunden, Laura Morton, and Tom Eckerle
Average review score:

Excellent recipes!
The recipes are fast, easy, and taste great! My husband's favorite is probably the Curried Chicken Salad with Mango - it's a miracle that I can get him to eat a salad for dinner. Now my mom wants it for Christmas.

Its a sticky page book!
Joan makes a comment in the book that she hopes it becomes the readers stickypage book. The one you go back to time after time and the pages become sticky from use. It has for me. I was very apprehensive about purchasing a "celebrity" cookbook..looked at it and thumbed the pages no less than six times. But its worth the purchase price for the recipes alone. You don't have to read about Joan if you don't want to. The recipes are fantastic and everyone I have served to guests has elicited raves and requests for copies of the recipes
